Preparation is KEY.

We all have reasons, mainly excuses, for allowing ourselves to let living a healthy lifestyle fall by the waistside. Too busy to train, healthy cooking takes time and I'm too tired for that, exercise is boring, I'm unable to eat healthy because i'm always on the road. This is never more apparent then when it comes to our daily eating habits.

Maintaining a healthy diet does not mean you need to spend hours in the kitchen or be a master chef. What it does require is preparation. Good prep work the night or week before ensures that you will stay on track with providing your body the essential nutrients that it requires to feel good, be healthy, and full of energy.

Preparing foods ahead of time allows you to plan what your meals will be moving forward, preventing you from having to settle for the fast food joint across the street when you get hungry or ordering in. Simple steps can be followed to make this preparation time a success.

1. Plan your meals a week or month in advance. This way when you go shopping, you can pick up everything on your list and have it on hand for when you need it. This makes the meal preparation for each day much easier, and keeps your grocery bills down.

2. Allow yourself some preparation time at night rather than leaving everything for the following morning. This allows you time in the morning for other duties such as deep breathing, exercise spending time with the kids, or squeezing in a few extra minutes of sleep; if that's what you require.

3. Keep things simple. I always promote variety in your diet, but it's not necessary to try and take on a demanding recipe on a Tuesday evening when you have kids that need to be at hockey practice or you get home from work at 7pm. Variety can be achieved using simple dishes and easy to follow recipes such as stir fry's or super salads.

4. Prepare enough food for dinner that you can take for the following day's lunch. This is a great way to avoid beeing stuck at work without lunch and having to settle for food out of your work cafeteria or the closest fast food restaurant. Spread the word to fellow employees to do the same. Take your prepared lunch outside during the beautiful sunny days and enjoy a great lunch date.

Taking the time to prepare your meals ahead of time sets you up for success! Give it a try.
